Ibrahim Soliman began his career in Egypt, where he studied software development and founded his first start-up at the age of just 19. The platform grew from a small idea to a team of 40 employees and combined education with the job market. After a few years in entrepreneurship, he gained further experience at well-known companies, including IBM. He then moved to Hungary, where he worked for an international software company and developed his intercultural skills. In 2021, he moved to Germany, where he initially worked for Airbus in the aerospace industry. Today, he brings his experience and passion for innovation to PANTOPIX.
We asked Ibrahim a few questions about his role and the tasks of a
Head of Development at PANTOPIX.
Have you always been interested in this profession?
Yes, I have always been very interested in technology and its ability to make a real impact. Even while studying computer science in Egypt, I was fascinated by how innovation can solve significant problems – which led me to start my first company at the age of 19. This entrepreneurial experience and my subsequent roles in global companies have only fueled my passion. Even though the environment and challenges have changed, my interest in building technologies that drive progress and shape the future has always been the common thread.
What are your main tasks, also as head of the development department?
As head of the development department, my main tasks include
- Defining the architecture and design of our systems and ensuring that technical decisions are aligned with business objectives.
- Coordinate and lead the development team, including task allocation, progress tracking and high-level project assessments.
- Promote standardization across the team by establishing best practices, facilitating documentation sessions and ensuring consistency in development processes.
In addition to these core tasks, I also focus on:
- Team development and mentoring: conducting regular one-on-one meetings to align personal goals with SMART goals and leading a mentoring program for junior developers.
- Administrative management: Taking over HR-related tasks in Personio, such as vacation approvals, recording attendance and setting performance targets.
- Recruitment and interviews: Actively participate in the recruitment process by reviewing CVs and conducting technical interviews.
- Learning and development initiatives: Management of the establishment of an internal learning platform to promote continuous skills development within the company.
Which other departments do you work closely with?
I work closely with the HR department, especially on employee-related matters such as performance reviews, target agreements and administrative issues. However, I work even more frequently with other departments – especially Product Development and the Infrastructure team.
What does your working day look like?
My working day is a mix of technical leadership, software development and team management. I usually start with software development tasks on some of our business projects – particularly in the areas of architecture, code reviews and implementation of key features. I also work closely with the product and infrastructure teams to align priorities and drive standardization.
In addition to technical work, I focus on mentoring and team development, conducting one-to-one meetings, leading mentoring sessions with junior developers and supporting their development. I also take on administrative and recruitment-related tasks such as performance monitoring, leave approvals and interviewing candidates. Finally, I invest time in improving my own leadership and technical skills to continue to add value as both a developer and a development manager.
How would you describe the team culture at PANTOPIX?
The team culture at PANTOPIX is very cooperative, supportive and growth-oriented. Employees are always open to sharing knowledge, giving constructive feedback and working together to find the best solutions. There is a strong sense of trust and openness, which facilitates communication between the different departments. At the same time, the company encourages continuous learning and personal development so that everyone feels motivated to grow both individually and as part of the team. Overall, it’s a culture that combines professionalism with genuine care for each other’s success.
How does PANTOPIX support you in your personal and professional development?
PANTOPIX has supported me a lot in both my personal and professional development. For example, the company encourages my participation in German language courses, which has helped me to integrate better both personally and professionally. I also had the opportunity to attend specialist conferences to keep up to date with the latest trends and innovations in the industry.
There is also a strong culture of continuous learning. I really appreciate the flexible work environment and healthy work-life balance that allows me to perform at my best while continuing to develop outside of work. Overall, PANTOPIX creates an environment where I feel both challenged and supported to achieve my goals.
What are the biggest challenges in your field of work?
One of the biggest challenges in my job is balancing strategic leadership with practical software development. As head of the development department, I still have to deal with architecture and programming while managing the team, supervising developers and coordinating with other departments.
Another challenge is to drive standardization across projects and ensure that best practices are consistently applied, even if we are working with different technologies and changing requirements.
Finally, as in many technical environments, keeping up with the rapid pace of technological change is always a challenge, but also a motivating factor that encourages me and my team to continuously learn and adapt.
What developments or trends in software development are you currently observing with particular interest?
At the moment, I am particularly interested in the rapid development of AI and machine learning in software development, especially as we are actively working with AI tools in our projects to improve testing and code quality. I also find the rise of low-code and no-code platforms and the focus on developer experience and tools to increase team productivity exciting because they spur us to innovate while maintaining efficiency and high standards in our workflows.
